Is McDonalds testing more social media
Over at his blog, Nigel Hollis talks about the top 100 most powerful brands.
“McDonald’s, the world’s most powerful fast food brand, has eased its way into the Top Ten Most Powerful Brands at number 8, ahead of Nokia and just below Apple. Given that McDonald’s was considered to be in the doldrums a few years ago, this reflects a significant improvement in the company’s fortunes.”
I just recently read this, so it was no real surprise. Ever since I learned about the A.R.G. they are running in conjunction with the Olympics, I decided to not underestimate them. Well, here’s another interesting one.
Buy a McDonald’s franchise in Second Life for $5. That’s right. Buy an entire McDonald’s franchise in Second Life.
Did McDonald’s have anything to do with this? Before I read about the stuff they are trying, I would have said no. I would have said that this was a tired old brand that has no idea how to compete in the new media arena. this is, however, the fourth time I’ve linked to a thing I wrote about McDonald’s being cool.
Clearly, this is a brand to watch.
