Why brands need to keep up with new tools
A friend of mine is starting a T-shirt company in a city in the US. On Friday, I suggested he go out and register the user name CITY_T-SHIRTS on just about all the social networking sites he can think of (and others that I sent to him).
So he begins registering using all the tools that come up in social media articles. He begins to fill in the forms on all the places that allow for tool.com/username or username.tool.com.
On Friday, he didn’t rank on Google for a search for CITY T-SHIRTS. After doing this Friday night, by Saturday his not-yet-started company ranked #6 on Google for a search of CityTshirts.
That’s the potential power of social media. The ability to go from zero to page one on Google just by registering a few names. Imagine what will happen when he begins to use the tools to spread the message of the company?
