Apple and online shopping

April 21, 2008

In this post, I argued that online worlds like Second Life will help us to figure out online shopping. Not online buying, but the ability to shop together. This news that Apple has filed a patent seems to confirm it. From the patent:

“A method of representing activity in an online store comprising: receiving information associated with the activities of a second visitor to the store; receiving an indication of the presence of a first visitor at the store; and displaying to the first visitor a representation of the activities of the second visitor.

Here’s the patent. When Apple files for a patent that seems to be saying ‘shopping together’, then you know the way we shop online could be in for an overhaul. when i was young, i used to hang out at the mall. Now the mall is fighting with Facebook. Imagine if Apple could get them meeting at the mall again?

Wouldn’t you want your client to be at that mall?
